Eclipse Over Longpoint

"For the longest time I had wanted to paint Bugsy and had the idea to paint "Bugs" in a shadow.  I chose Bugsy because he was an older dog and I wanted to create the illusion of time passing, moving from one point in time to another. Bugsy fit the bill.  At the time of this painting Bugsy was 12 years old and was moving from one point of his life to another.  The first phase of the eclipse was upon him".

Bugsy was named after Bugs Bunny and has the personality to suit the name, today Bugsy is 14 years old.  He is a little slower, he can't hear as well as he used to and he is a little grayer than when he was painted two years ago.  He is now entering the final phase of the "Eclipse Over Longpoint".

Acrylics and gauche on board were used to implement a layering process in the painting to create a piece that is rich in detail and depth of colour.

Image size - 12" x 16"  Image ships unframed.

A limited edition of 20 signed and numbered canvas giclee prints will be available.

Giclee printing uses high quality scanned digital images of an original fine art piece, archival inks and acid-free paper or canvas.  Through the use of digital technology and certified giclee fine art printers, colours are matched exactly to those of the original.  The prints produced are identical images of the original that posssess fade proof qualities.

Artist's Biography -

Peter Ferin's intial training in fine arts from Sheridan College and the Humber College Design Program set the foundation for his life-long passion for art.  The works of wildlife artists such as Carl Brenders, Jett Brunette and Pat Godin inspired Peter to improve his skills and to reach higher standards of artistic achievement.

As an accomplished wildife sculptor and intent on receiving honest critiques of his work, Peter challenged himself by entering a number of wildlife art competitions.  He has received numerous awards from established art exhitits and juried shows including the Ward World Wildlife Art Competition in Maryland, the Wye Marsh Canadian Wildlife Art Competition in Midland, Ontario, the North American Wildife Art Competition in Michigan, the Canadian Open Wildfowl Art Competion in Toronto, Ontario and the Kaleidoscope Art Exhibit in Burlington, Ontario, just to name a few.

While still sculpting, Peter has spent the last several years turning his talents to painting and drawing.  His subject matter focuses on nature, wildlife and his life-long love of sporting dogs.  The painting technique recreates a textured effect by layering thin washes of acrylic and guache paints, reproducing a quality of work that suggests the look and texture of living subjects.  The paintings are luminous and lifelike in the style of photo realism.

In 2009 Peter entered the prestigious Buckhorn Wildlife Art Festival with his painting "Hoodies" and received an Honorable Mention in a very highly competitive class.  In 2010 Peter entered the competition yet again and won First Place as well as the coveted "People's Choice Award" with "Silent Swan"

He continues to work on his painting and drawing techiques and is currently researching his next piece.  Peter makes his home in Flamborough, Ontario.
